The Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital is seeking a dedicated Medical Specialist Grade 1 to 3 (Sub-Specialty) in Paediatric Critical Care. What You’ll Do

  • Deliver high-quality paediatric critical care clinical services in the PICU.
  • Conduct ward rounds and participate in multidisciplinary clinical meetings and morbidity and mortality discussions.
  • Manage and efficiently utilize allocated clinical resources.
  • Teach and mentor undergraduate and postgraduate students, nursing staff, and medical officers.
  • Engage in research projects, contributing to new studies and staying updated with clinical advancements.
  • Liaise with hospital management and the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health regarding administrative matters.

What You’ll Need

  • Appropriate qualification for registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Sub-Specialist in Paediatric Critical Care.
  • Registration with HPCSA as a Medical Sub-specialist in Paediatric Critical Care.
  • For Grade 1: No experience required after registration as a Medical Specialist in Paediatric Critical Care.
  • For Grade 2: A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Medical Specialist in Paediatric Critical Care after HPCSA registration.
  • For Grade 3: A minimum of 10 years’ experience as a Medical Specialist in Paediatric Critical Care after HPCSA registration.
  • Post-specialization experience in Paediatric Intensive Care is essential, including care for cardio-thoracic, neuro-surgical, and trauma patients.
  • A valid driver’s licence and the ability to work 16 hours of compulsory commuted overtime per week.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work under pressure and maintain professionalism.
  • Proven leadership abilities and experience supervising staff and students.
  • Computer literacy and knowledge of service planning and evaluation principles.
