The Department of Health is seeking dedicated Medical Officers (Anaesthetics) to join the team at Mowbray Maternity Hospital in Cape Town. What You’ll Do

• Deliver anaesthesia and critical care services to patients in theatre and wards.
• Manage pre-operative, intraoperative, and post-operative anaesthetic care for surgical patients.
• Provide critical care to surgical ICU patients at Groote Schuur Hospital.
• Teach, train, and supervise interns, students, and nursing colleagues.
• Rotate through hospitals affiliated with the University of Cape Town, including Groote Schuur and New Somerset Hospital.
• Participate in the call roster for continuous patient support.
• Engage in management duties such as presenting statistics and contributing to research.

What You’ll Need

• Appropriate qualification for registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Health Professional Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
• Registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner.
• Experience requirements vary:
• Grade 1: No post-registration experience required for SA qualified employees.
• Grade 2: Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Medical Practitioner post-registration for SA qualified employees.
• Grade 3: Minimum of 10 years’ experience as a Medical Practitioner post-registration for SA qualified employees.
• A valid driver’s license.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
• Interest in developing an academic career and demonstrating clinical leadership skills.
• Diploma in Anaesthetics (DA) from the College of Medicine of South Africa (CMSA) is preferred.
• Willingness to undertake after-hours duties, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
