The Department of Health is seeking dedicated individuals for the position of Counsellor Grade 1 to 3, based in the Northern/Tygerberg Sub-Structure Office. What You’ll Do
- Provide preventative and developmental counselling services to individuals and groups.
- Conduct supportive psychological interventions to enhance mental well-being at various levels.
- Perform basic psychological screenings to assess overall functioning.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary and multi-sectoral support teams for holistic client care.
- Offer psychoeducation and promote mental health initiatives within communities.
- Prepare detailed reports and provide feedback on interventions to clients and supervisors.
- Supervise and mentor lay health workers, enhancing their skills and knowledge.
- Participate in regular clinical supervision and contribute to district mental health teams.
What You’ll Need
- An appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as a Registered Counsellor.
- Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as a Registered Counsellor is mandatory.
- For Grade 2: A minimum of 8 years’ relevant experience after registration.
- For Grade 3: A minimum of 16 years’ relevant experience after registration.
- Valid driver’s license (Code B/EB) and willingness to travel within the Sub-Structure.
- Knowledge and experience in counselling, psychometric assessments, and mental health challenges.
- Strong strategic and analytical thinking skills, with the ability to interpret policies.
- Competency in mentoring other health workers and proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
