What You’ll Do

• Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive animal health programmes.
• Investigate and respond to outbreaks of controlled and notifiable animal diseases.
• Conduct epidemiological investigations and maintain disease surveillance systems.
• Manage biosecurity measures and emergency disease preparedness plans.
• Enforce veterinary legislation and compliance monitoring at various animal-related establishments.
• Issue veterinary health certificates and permits for animal movement and trade.
• Promote animal welfare through inspections and community awareness initiatives.
• Provide technical veterinary advice to farmers and public stakeholders.
• Plan and oversee vaccination campaigns and other health interventions.
• Collect and analyze animal health data to compile reports for management.
• Implement performance management systems for staff under your jurisdiction.
• Manage inventory, budget, and revenue collection within the veterinary area.

What You’ll Need

• A Grade 12 certificate and a recognized Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc/BVMCh) or equivalent.
• Current registration with the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC).
• Completion of Compulsory Community Service, where applicable.
• Relevant experience in veterinary science is an added advantage.
• Sound knowledge of relevant legislation and animal health practices.
• Strong communication, report writing, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Willingness to travel frequently and work after hours as required.
• A valid driver’s license is essential.
