The Department of the Premier in the Western Cape Government is seeking a dedicated State Law Advisor to enhance its Corporate Legal Advisory Services. What You’ll Do
- Provide legal guidance to SCM Committees on matters of fairness, conflict of interest, and legal implications of decisions.
- Draft formal legal opinions on key areas such as Procurement Law, Contract Law, and administrative justice.
- Review and vet tender documents to ensure compliance with applicable legislation.
- Identify potential legal risks during the pre-award phase and recommend strategies for mitigation.
- Support contract lifecycle management, ensuring the interests of the Western Cape Government are protected.
- Collaborate with the Litigation Unit on legal opinions and advice related to procurement law in court proceedings.
- Draft, scrutinize, and edit legal-technical correspondence as required.
What You’ll Need
- An LLB degree (or equivalent legal qualification) with admission as an Advocate or Attorney.
- A minimum of 5 years’ practical post-qualification legal experience for LP 7 roles; 9 years for LP 8 roles.
- In-depth knowledge of public procurement laws, financial management, and administrative justice.
- Strong understanding of South African constitutional and legal frameworks governing public sector operations.
- Proven ability to provide independent legal advice in high-pressure environments, including SCM committee settings.
- Excellent communication, analytical thinking, and negotiation skills.
- High attention to detail with strong technical vetting abilities.
- Demonstrated integrity, diplomacy, and conflict resolution skills.
