What You’ll Do

  • Study and guide investigations in case dockets to prepare for prosecution.
  • Decide on the institution of criminal proceedings and conduct trials.
  • Draft charge sheets, indictments, and other essential court documents.
  • Represent the State in all court matters, leading and cross-examining witnesses.
  • Prepare cases for court, including acquiring additional evidence.
  • Attend to representations and prepare legal opinions and heads of arguments.
  • Argue cases in appropriate courts, including motion applications related to criminal matters.
  • Promote community involvement and partner integration within the criminal justice system.

What You’ll Need

  • An LLB or appropriate legal qualification for serving prosecutors seeking promotion.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ post-qualification legal experience.
  • Right of appearance as per section 25(2) of the NPA Act, 32 of 1998.
  • Strong skills in legal research, drafting, and knowledge of civil and criminal procedures.
  • Proficiency in prosecuting and presenting cases in court.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage cases with minimal supervision.
