What You’ll Do

  • Assist the head of the clinical unit in managing the Renal Transplant Programme.
  • Provide surgical services to patients on the transplant programme.
  • Conduct clinics, operate in theatre, and manage angiosuite lists.
  • Develop protocols for perioperative patient management.
  • Conduct and supervise relevant research initiatives.
  • Perform regular audits of departmental activities.
  • Liaise with hospital management and other agencies to ensure efficient clinical services.
  • Provide consultative and support services to peripheral institutions as part of the outreach program.
  • Cover afterhours duties to ensure the success of the transplant unit.

What You’ll Need

  • MBChB Degree or equivalent qualifications.
  • Current registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Specialist in Surgery.
  • Grade 1: No experience required; registration with HPCSA as a Specialist in Surgery.
  • Grade 2: Requires registration and 5+ years of experience.
  • Grade 3: Requires registration and 10+ years of experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of the functioning of the Transplant Unit.
  • Ability to manage donor and recipient surgeries and oversee dialysis patient access.
  • Strong communication, supervisory, and leadership skills.
  • Proven academic capabilities and training experience.
  • Experience in a renal transplant unit or access surgery preferred; management experience advantageous.
