The National Prosecuting Authority is seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior State Advocate to join their team in Makhanda (Grahamstown). What You’ll Do
- Review and study the recommendations of the TRC, including relevant documents and exhibits.
- Provide expert guidance to TRC investigating officers and support their efforts in legal matters.
- Draft a variety of legal documents related to access to evidence and court procedures.
- Conduct thorough research and prepare legal opinions and reports on TRC matters.
- Make informed legal decisions in line with the law and NPA policies.
- Collaborate with stakeholders and colleagues to ensure effective handling of TRC cases.
- Assist in the development of strategic and operational plans to enhance NPA performance.
- Monitor and report on performance information and statistics related to TRC matters.
What You’ll Need
- An LLB or an appropriate legal qualification for serving prosecutors seeking promotion.
- At least eight years of post-qualification legal experience, particularly in criminal litigation.
- Demonstrable skills in independent decision-making, professionalism, and accountability.
- Right of appearance as per the NPA Act, section 25(2) of 1998.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; experience with MS Teams and Power BI is an advantage.
- Strong administrative skills and the ability to work under pressure, including long hours if necessary.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, adaptability, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Knowledge and experience regarding TRC matters would be beneficial.
- A valid driver’s license.
