The National Prosecuting Authority is looking for a Senior State Advocate based in East London. This pivotal role involves representing the State in civil litigation, specifically focusing on asset forfeiture cases, which are crucial in combating crime and restoring justice within our communities. The Senior State Advocate will engage with Prosecutors and various stakeholders, ensuring that the legal processes around freezing and confiscating property are executed efficiently and effectively. In this role, you will be more than just a legal representative; you will act as a guardian of the law, upholding the principles of justice while training and guiding Prosecutors and Investigators in Asset Forfeiture Law. What You’ll Do

• Represent the State in civil litigation concerning asset forfeiture matters.
• Liaise with Prosecutors on cases that involve asset forfeiture potential.
• Draft and present asset forfeiture applications in various courts.
• Train Prosecutors and Investigators in the principles and applications of Asset Forfeiture Law.
• Stay updated with the latest legal developments and changes in legislation.
• Conduct legal research to support case preparation and strategy.
• Manage case files and maintain meticulous records of proceedings.
• Travel as needed to represent the State in different judicial settings.

What You’ll Need

• An LLB degree or an appropriate legal qualification for serving prosecutors seeking promotion.
• A minimum of eight years of post-qualification experience in civil and/or criminal litigation.
• Right of appearance as per section 25(2) of the NPA Act, 32 of 1998.
• Strong advocacy and legal drafting skills.
• In-depth knowledge of civil and/or criminal procedure.
• Admitted Advocate and/or Attorney status is advantageous.
• Familiarity with Asset Forfeiture Law is a plus.
• Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
• Willingness to work extended hours and travel when necessary.
• A valid driver’s license and capability for legal research.
