About the Role
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is seeking four Senior State Advocates to join their dedicated team in Bloemfontein. This pivotal role plays a crucial part in the prosecution of serious, complex, and organized commercial crime and corruption cases, directly impacting the safety and integrity of communities across South Africa. What You’ll Do
- Conduct prosecutions for serious and complex commercial crime and corruption cases.
- Advise the DPCI on investigations related to these serious crimes.
- Perform legal research and maintain knowledge of legal developments.
- Draft charge sheets, court documents, and represent the State in all courts.
- Present cases in court, lead witnesses, and carry out cross-examinations.
- Handle motion proceedings, appeals, and reviews.
- Engage with stakeholders on commercial crime-related issues.
- Mentor and train junior prosecutors and stakeholders as required.
- Address representations and complaints related to prosecutions.
- Complete necessary administrative duties associated with prosecutions.
What You’ll Need
- An LLB degree or an appropriate legal qualification for serving prosecutors.
- At least eight years of post-qualification legal experience in criminal litigation.
- Competency in independent, professional, and accountable legal practice.
- Right of appearance as per Section 25(2) of the NPA Act, 32 of 1998.
- Admission as an advocate or attorney is advantageous.
- Strong advocacy skills and well-developed legal research and drafting abilities.
- Knowledge of civil and criminal procedures.
- Good interpersonal, analytical, presentation, and communication skills.
- Familiarity with asset forfeiture law.
- Proficient computer skills and a valid driver’s license.
