About the Role
The National Prosecuting Authority is seeking a Senior Public Prosecutor to join its dedicated team in Mthatha, specifically in Tsolo. As a Senior Public Prosecutor, you will play a pivotal role in managing a team of prosecutors, training and guiding them to ensure that justice is served efficiently and effectively. In this position, you will be responsible for representing the state in court proceedings, leading prosecutions, and overseeing the preparation of case dockets. What You’ll Do
- Manage and supervise the allocation of work for lower-level prosecutors and trainees.
- Train prosecutors and stakeholders in the preparation of case dockets and conducting criminal proceedings.
- Represent the State in all courts, presenting and assisting in the prosecution of cases.
- Lead and cross-examine witnesses, addressing the court on matters related to convictions.
- Handle representations and complaints in accordance with legal protocols.
- Collaborate with the Chief Prosecutor and Director of Public Prosecutions to achieve strategic goals.
- Perform administrative duties in line with the NPA’s code of conduct and policy directives.
- Promote community involvement and partner integration within the criminal justice framework.
What You’ll Need
- An LLB degree or an appropriate legal qualification for serving prosecutors seeking promotion.
- A minimum of eight (8) years post-qualification legal experience.
- At least five (5) years of experience in legal practice is an added advantage.
- Demonstrable competency in acting independently, professionally, and with integrity.
- Strong management skills with the ability to guide and train prosecutors.
- Proficiency in prosecuting, guiding investigations, and drafting charge sheets and complex court documents.
- Ability to work independently without constant supervision.
- A valid driver’s license is required.
