What You’ll Do

  • Conduct daily operations on various litigation matters, ensuring adherence to legal standards.
  • Provide strategic guidance to reduce litigation costs and improve case handling.
  • Draft legal documents that articulate clear motivations for departmental positions.
  • Interview relevant stakeholders to gather information on departmental goals and objectives.
  • Render legal advice on various litigation matters, collaborating with colleagues and external experts.
  • Analyze research and case law to inform legal strategies and mentor junior staff.
  • Prepare reports for the Minister and Director-General, highlighting litigation outcomes and recommendations.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and regulations to enhance departmental operations.
  • Ensure compliance with all audit requirements and manage external consultants effectively.
  • Support the department’s digital transformation initiatives and ensure optimal resource utilization.

What You’ll Need

  • An LLB degree or equivalent 4-year legal qualification recognized by SAQA.
  • A minimum of 8 years’ post-qualification legal experience, with 4-5 years in a Civil Litigation environment.
  • Admission as an Attorney or Advocate is required.
  • Strong knowledge of court processes, legislation, and the South African legal system.
  • Excellent strategic capability and leadership skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on client orientation.
  • Problem-solving ability and experience in project management.
  • A valid Driver’s License and willingness to travel as needed.
