What You’ll Do

  • Draft and vet various legal documents, including contracts, affidavits, and correspondence.
  • Provide legal advice and support during the negotiation and drafting phases of contracts.
  • Conduct thorough research on legal matters and court precedents to inform opinions and documentation.
  • Manage relationships with external legal experts to ensure timely and accurate legal opinions.
  • Oversee the processing of requests under the Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA) and ensure compliance with prescribed timeframes.
  • Supervise and guide staff, focusing on performance management and professional development.
  • Compile reports for the Directorate and contribute to the operational planning of the department.

What You’ll Need

  • A Grade 12 Certificate and LLB or qualifications as determined by the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development.
  • At least 8 years of post-qualification legal experience, particularly in drafting and vetting contracts.
  • Strong knowledge of South African law and legislation administered by the department.
  • Excellent drafting, writing, and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proven ability to interpret legal acts and regulations and apply them effectively.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel as required.
