What You’ll Do

  • Render interpreting services in various legal contexts, including court proceedings and consultations.
  • Interpret non-verbal gestures and dramatic expressions to enhance clarity during testimonies.
  • Provide accurate translation of legal documents and exhibits while ensuring compliance with legal standards.
  • Liaise with supervisors for foreign language interpretation needs and support other interpreters as required.
  • Develop and maintain a terminology database to assist in the reconstruction of legal records.
  • Engage with judiciary members to assess interpreter performance and readiness for court settings.

What You’ll Need

  • A National Diploma in Legal Interpreting or an equivalent qualification at NQF level 6 with 360 credits as recognized by SAQA.
  • A minimum of two years’ practical experience in court interpreting, or a Grade 12 certificate with at least ten years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in English, Afrikaans, and isiXhosa; additional indigenous language skills are advantageous.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legal acts and regulations, as well as cultural understanding related to language usage.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, alongside strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
