About the Role

The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment is looking for dedicated Security Officers to join their team in the beautiful KwaZulu-Natal region. This role will be based across various locations, including Weza State Forest, Umzimkhulu State Forest, Sokhulu State Forest, Nkwezela State Forest, and Mthunzini State Forest. As a Security Officer, you will play a vital part in ensuring the safety and security of these natural treasures, which are essential for the community and wildlife conservation efforts in South Africa.

In your day-to-day responsibilities, you will be tasked with performing access control and identifying suspicious conduct, ensuring that unauthorized individuals and dangerous objects do not compromise the integrity of the premises. Your presence will help foster a safer environment for both staff and visitors, allowing everyone to appreciate the natural beauty and resources of our forests. What You’ll Do

• Perform access control measures to maintain security at facilities.
• Identify suspicious activities and respond appropriately to security threats.
• Monitor and operate control room security equipment.
• Conduct regular patrols to ensure safety within the premises.
• Assist visitors to the appropriate areas and ensure they conform to safety regulations.
• Keep the occurrence book and other registers updated with incidents.
• Implement emergency procedures when necessary and liaise with emergency services.
• Support fire management efforts in the forest as required.

What You’ll Need

• Grade 10 (NQF level 2) or an equivalent qualification.
• A valid Private Security Industry Regulation Act (PSiRA) certificate.
• Knowledge of access control procedures and security measures.
• Strong communication skills, both written and spoken.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Willingness to work long hours and under pressure.
• Conflict management and resolution skills.
