What You’ll Do

• Conduct basic and applied research in horticulture to inform agronomic practices.
• Develop and implement research methodologies, policies, and procedures related to horticulture.
• Identify gaps in the current horticultural landscape and propose effective interventions.
• Collaborate with extension services and other stakeholders to provide training and guidance.
• Compile and publish scientific and technical reports in journals and popular media.
• Mentor and train technicians and colleagues to promote skills transfer.
• Supervise scientific work and ensure adherence to sound scientific principles.

What You’ll Need

• A Grade 12 certificate and a postgraduate degree in crop or plant production (NQF Level 8) or a four-year degree majoring in crop/plant science.
• A Master’s degree in Agriculture will be advantageous.
• At least four years of experience in conducting agricultural plant/crop research.
• Strong knowledge of plant science/crop production and relevant policies.
• Proficiency in project management, research development, and communication skills.
• Ability to write research proposals and scientific reports.
• Good computer skills, including MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint.
• A valid driver’s license.
