What You’ll Do

• Conduct basic and applied research on aquaculture and inland fisheries focusing on priority species.
• Provide insights on new technologies and research developments to stakeholders.
• Perform scientific analysis and regulatory functions related to aquaculture practices.
• Gather, interpret, and statistically evaluate data to inform policies and practices.
• Compile technical reports, proposals, and policy briefs to consolidate sectoral needs.
• Monitor and evaluate ongoing aquaculture research programs and activities.
• Optimize breeding and hatchery programs to enhance production efficiencies.
• Build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders to encourage best practices.
• Mentor and supervise interns, students, and aquaculture technicians to develop technical skills.

What You’ll Need

• A Master’s (MSc) Degree in Aquaculture, Ichthyology, or a related field recognized by SAQA.
• A minimum of four years’ post-qualification experience in aquaculture research.
• Registration with SACNASP as a Professional Natural Scientist.
• Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of aquaculture systems and inland fisheries.
• Proven ability to conduct quantitative analysis and write peer-reviewed publications.
• Familiarity with data analysis software and statistical applications.
• Practical skills in aquaculture breeding, aquatic animal handling, and biosecurity.
• Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, along with a valid driver’s license.
