The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment is seeking a dedicated Groundsman for the Greening and Livelihoods Implementation project, located at the Rusplaas Nursery in Lebowakgomo, Limpopo. What You’ll Do
- Perform routine maintenance tasks for grounds, including watering and irrigating plants and lawns.
- Conduct weeding and weed control to maintain healthy growth.
- Prune and trim plants, and manage the sowing and transplanting of seedlings and trees.
- Mow lawns and dispose of organic waste responsibly.
- Prepare seedling trays and perform seed pre-sowing treatment.
- Assist with stocktaking and tagging of plants accurately.
- Ensure the use, cleaning, and basic maintenance of nursery tools and equipment.
- Provide general labour support in the nursery, including mixing sand and compost and maintaining irrigation systems.
- Interact with customers visiting the nursery and assist them in purchasing trees.
- Report any damages in the nursery to the Foreman.
What You’ll Need
- Grade 09 (NQF level 1) or an equivalent qualification.
- Knowledge of the National Forestry Act and Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Problem-solving skills and good interpersonal abilities.
- Capability to work long hours voluntarily, both individually and in a team.
- Creativity and the ability to resolve conflicts effectively.
- Willingness to work under pressure and with challenging individuals.
