What You’ll Do

• Conduct surveillance and assessment of locust, blackfly, and quelea outbreaks.
• Verify and respond to reported locust outbreaks, ensuring timely action.
• Organize and plan control operations for pest management.
• Perform ecological risk assessments in affected areas to inform control measures.
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of pest control operations, including post-control assessments.
• Train and raise awareness among local stakeholders about pest control and management strategies.
• Capture and manage data related to migratory pest outbreaks for effective tracking and reporting.
• Collaborate with research teams to identify needs and challenges in pest management.

What You’ll Need

• A Grade 12 Certificate and a National Diploma in Agriculture, Environmental Management, Nature Conservation, or Pest Management (NQF 6).
• A minimum of two years of relevant experience in pest management or environmental conservation.
• Knowledge of the Agricultural Pest Act, Natural Environmental Management Act, and related legislation.
• Strong skills in geographical information systems, policy development, and analytical assessments.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, including report writing.
• Leadership and negotiation skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team.
• A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel extensively as required.
