What You’ll Do
- Support the Deputy Director: Liaison in implementing the government communication programme in Ekurhuleni.
- Disseminate government information and manage key communication projects in accordance with established guidelines.
- Supervise and monitor the work of Senior Communication Officers and interns, ensuring operational efficiency.
- Establish and strengthen communication coordination structures within the municipality to promote effective information sharing.
- Advocate for initiatives that enhance Local Government Communication Systems through strategic intergovernmental relations.
- Provide communication support for integrated government service delivery models, including the District Development Model and Thusong Service Centres.
- Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders such as civil society, community media, and local government.
- Write service delivery articles and develop localized distribution strategies for government information products.
- Conduct local communication environment assessments to inform stakeholders of key issues.
- Support government public participation initiatives and follow up on communication interventions.
What You’ll Need
- National Diploma (NQF 6) in Journalism, Media Studies, Communication, or Public Relations.
- At least three years of relevant experience, including one year in a supervisory role within the communications field.
- Understanding of development communication practices and knowledge of the Gauteng province, particularly Ekurhuleni.
- Digital literacy and familiarity with contemporary communication methods and tools.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to produce high-quality content.
- A valid Code 08 driver’s license for extensive travel within the region.
- Basic knowledge of administration and finance, with the ability to work under pressure.
