The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment is seeking a skilled Project Manager: Global Environment 8 – Peatlands based in Pretoria. This role plays a vital part in ensuring effective project management that contributes to the restoration and preservation of our natural wetlands. As a Project Manager, you will oversee the establishment of the Project Management Unit (PMU) and supervise its staff, ensuring that both national and international consultants, along with project partners, collaborate effectively to achieve the desired outcomes for the environment and the community.

What You’ll Do

• Lead the establishment and management of the Project Management Unit (PMU).
• Supervise and support PMU staff in achieving project goals.
• Ensure collaboration among consultants and project partners to deliver outputs.
• Implement and manage the project according to GEF, ERIP, and UNEP standards.
• Prepare financial reports and ensure transparency in financial operations.
• Engage stakeholders through a well-structured stakeholder engagement plan.
• Provide expert advice on wetland policy development and peatland restoration.
• Monitor project progress and conduct annual assessments of environmental and social safeguard risks.
• Organize and manage project committees and meetings effectively.

What You’ll Need

• National Diploma (NQF 6) in Environmental Science, Project Management, or relevant qualification.
• Minimum of five years’ experience in project management, with at least three years at a managerial level.
• Proven experience in managing large multidisciplinary projects.
• Knowledge of biodiversity management and wetland legislation.
• Strong report writing skills and experience in financial and procurement processes.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and under pressure.
