About the Role
The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment is seeking a dedicated Permit Officer based in the Mokopane Service Centre, located in the beautiful Waterberg District of Limpopo. This pivotal role involves providing essential administrative support for various permit duties related to the hunting, capture, transport, relocation, import, and export of fauna and flora. By ensuring that the permitting processes are adhered to, you will play a crucial part in safeguarding South Africa’s rich biodiversity and natural resources, contributing to the larger mission of public service.
As a Permit Officer, your daily work will directly impact your community and the environment. You will be responsible for processing biodiversity permits within prescribed legislative timeframes, maintaining accurate permit registers, and liaising with stakeholders regarding permit matters. What You’ll Do
- Perform administrative support for various permit-related duties
- Assess permit applications for hunting, capture, transport, relocation, and biodiversity
- Process permits within required legislative timeframes
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date permit registers and electronic databases
- Monitor validity and renewal of permits
- Receive, capture, and facilitate permit applications
- Manage the distribution of hunting tags and related materials
- Liaise with stakeholders to provide information and resolve permit queries
What You’ll Need
- An NQF 6 qualification in Public Administration, Office Management, or equivalent recognized by SAQA
- One to two years of relevant experience
- A valid driver’s license (with exceptions for people with disabilities)
- Willingness to travel as required
- Proficiency in relevant acts, directives, and resolutions
- Strong computer literacy and administrative skills
- Excellent records-keeping abilities
- Good interpersonal relations and conflict management skills
- Ability to interpret complex information effectively
