About the Role

The Department of Health is seeking a dedicated and skilled Medical Specialist Grade 1 to 3 in Psychiatry to join the team at Groote Schuur Hospital, located in the vibrant suburb of Observatory, Cape Town. What You’ll Do

• Deliver clinical services in psychiatry, managing both inpatient and outpatient care.
• Oversee the ECT service and ensure compliance with safety and clinical standards.
• Provide leadership and supervision to junior medical staff and students.
• Engage in research and clinical audits to enhance service delivery.
• Maintain accurate clinical records and patient reports for effective documentation.
• Support the Head of Department in fulfilling overall departmental objectives.
• Represent the department in multidisciplinary clinical governance forums.

What You’ll Need

• A qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Specialist in Psychiatry.
• HPCSA registration as a Medical Specialist in Psychiatry.
• For Grade 1: No experience required after registration.
• For Grade 2: A minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience.
• For Grade 3: A minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience.
• Strong clinical skills in assessing and managing psychiatric disorders.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership abilities.
• Experience in teaching, training, and supervising clinical staff.
• Knowledge of research methodologies and clinical audit processes.
