What You’ll Do

• Process applications for the transfer of fishing rights in accordance with the Marine Living Resources Act.
• Validate and examine fishing rights applications, ensuring compliance with legal requirements.
• Conduct legal research to gather pertinent information and case laws.
• Draft detailed reports as outlined in legal regulations related to fisheries.
• Liaise with Legal Services to seek legal opinions and advice.
• Provide legal guidance to stakeholders concerning the fisheries legal framework.
• Assist in the review and development of fisheries policies.
• Participate in stakeholder consultations and public comments on draft policies.
• Support the Fishing Rights Allocation process with legal administrative functions.
• Draft briefing notes and presentations for senior management and committees.

What You’ll Need

• An LLB Degree or a relevant equivalent qualification recognized by SAQA.
• A minimum of two years of appropriate post-qualification legal experience.
• Strong knowledge of the Marine Living Resources Act and related legislation.
• Proficiency in drafting legal documents and providing legal advice.
• Skills in dispute resolution, case flow management, and analytical thinking.
• Familiarity with laws of contract, delict, and principles of statutory interpretation.
