What You’ll Do

  • Manage and support GIS information within the Spatial Information Management (SIM) component.
  • Assist with specific departmental GIS projects and provide support to GIS end-users.
  • Respond to GIS-related incidents and troubleshoot technical issues.
  • Contribute to the administrative procedures in the SIM component for efficient operations.
  • Engage in technical GIS activities to maintain the effectiveness of the GIS unit.
  • Participate in people management and support the overall management of the directorate.
  • Conduct functional requirement analyses for GIS applications.

What You’ll Need

  • A Grade 12 certificate and a Diploma in GISc, Cartography, or an equivalent qualification recognized by SAQA.
  • At least 3 years of post-qualification experience as a GIS Technician.
  • Compulsory registration with PLATO.
  • A valid driver’s license (with exceptions for individuals with disabilities).
  • Strong understanding of GIS applications, spatial data queries, and GIS software.
  • Knowledge of GPS technologies, photogrammetry, remote sensing, and cartographic principles.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, along with effective decision-making capabilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, alongside advanced computer skills.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team and manage projects efficiently.
