About the Role
The Department of Water and Sanitation is seeking a dedicated Environmental Officer Specialised Production Grade A to join their team based in Hartbeespoort. This role is crucial in providing support and oversight to three area offices, specifically the Hartbeespoort, Groblersdal, and Tzaneen Area Offices. As a key player in maintaining and rehabilitating bulk water infrastructure, you will ensure that environmental standards are upheld in the development and maintenance projects across these regions. Your work will directly contribute to safeguarding our natural resources and promoting sustainable practices that benefit the community.

What You’ll Do
- Support three area offices in ensuring compliance with environmental legislation.
- Conduct environmental screenings and assessments for infrastructure projects.
- Compile environmental management plans and terms of reference for practitioners.
- Perform environmental audits and site inspections for ongoing projects.
- Monitor compliance with environmental regulations during planning and construction phases.
- Assist in developing recreational water use policies and guidelines.
- Provide technical support to various stakeholders in the water sector.
What You’ll Need
- An Honours Degree in Environmental Science or a relevant NQF level 8 qualification.
- Minimum of three years of working experience post-qualification.
- A valid and unexpired driver’s license.
- Knowledge of the National Water Act and related environmental legislation.
- Familiarity with Integrated Water Resources Management principles.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and report-writing skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to travel extensively and work irregular hours.
