What You’ll Do

• Develop and implement systems and procedures for plant variety applications.
• Verify technical questionnaires and applications in accordance with relevant legislation.
• Establish and manage trials in coordination with farm managers and applicants.
• Conduct site visits and engage with clients regarding their applications.
• Perform detailed technical scientific analyses and collect data on plant varieties.
• Observe and evaluate candidates according to UPOV and national guidelines.
• Compile variety descriptions and DUS reports for compliance.
• Provide technical support and advice to Registrars and plant improvement organizations.
• Participate in research and development activities related to plant variety legislation.
• Manage reference collections and maintain accurate filing systems.

What You’ll Need

• A Grade 12 certificate and a BSc (Hon) or M Tech in Botany, Agronomy, Horticulture, Genetics, or Plant Biotechnology.
• Compulsory registration with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNSP) as a Professional Natural Scientist.
• A minimum of three years of post-qualification experience in botany, plant breeding, or related fields.
• Strong computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office.
• Excellent communication, planning, and organizational abilities.
• Valid driver’s license and the ability to conduct fieldwork effectively.
