What You’ll Do

• Oversee forestry research, development, and innovation to align with global standards.
• Manage funding and resources for the research function within the forestry sector.
• Develop and maintain national norms and standards for sustainable forest management.
• Provide scientific guidelines and best practices to assist the forestry branch.
• Deliver specialist technical advice to stakeholders and facilitate integrated environmental management.
• Ensure compliance with national and international forestry reporting requirements.
• Coordinate and manage spatial and non-spatial information gathering and analysis.
• Maintain a comprehensive Geographical Information Systems (GIS) database for the region.
• Oversee the creation of GIS reports for further action and policy development.

What You’ll Need

• An undergraduate qualification in Forestry or a relevant NQF7 qualification recognized by SAQA.
• A minimum of five years of experience at a middle/senior management level within forestry management or a related field.
• Successful completion of the Senior Management Pre-entry Programme endorsed by the National School of Government (NSG).
• In-depth knowledge of the National Forestry Act and other relevant legislation.
• Strong leadership, management, and project management skills.
• Excellent research, analytical, and communication abilities.
• Computer literacy and the ability to work under pressure with diverse teams.
