About the Role
The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment is seeking a dedicated and experienced individual for the position of Director: Forestry Scientific & Technical Services, based in Pretoria. What You’ll Do
- Oversee forestry research, development, and innovation to align with global standards.
- Manage funding and resources for the research function within the forestry sector.
- Develop and maintain national norms and standards for sustainable forest management.
- Provide scientific guidelines and best practices to assist the forestry branch.
- Deliver specialist technical advice to stakeholders and facilitate integrated environmental management.
- Ensure compliance with national and international forestry reporting requirements.
- Coordinate and manage spatial and non-spatial information gathering and analysis.
- Maintain a comprehensive Geographical Information Systems (GIS) database for the region.
- Oversee the creation of GIS reports for further action and policy development.
What You’ll Need
- An undergraduate qualification in Forestry or a relevant NQF7 qualification recognized by SAQA.
- A minimum of five years of experience at a middle/senior management level within forestry management or a related field.
- Successful completion of the Senior Management Pre-entry Programme endorsed by the National School of Government (NSG).
- In-depth knowledge of the National Forestry Act and other relevant legislation.
- Strong leadership, management, and project management skills.
- Excellent research, analytical, and communication abilities.
- Computer literacy and the ability to work under pressure with diverse teams.
