About the Role
The Department of Water and Sanitation is seeking dedicated individuals for the role of Control Environmental Officer Grade A in Bloemfontein and Pretoria. This vital position focuses on the implementation of the National Water Act 36 of 1998, particularly Resource Directed Measures (RDM) that are essential for managing our water resources effectively. What You’ll Do
- Implement the National Water Act focusing on Resource Directed Measures.
- Coordinate the Adopt-a-River Initiative and oversee river health monitoring.
- Conduct hydrological models and prepare technical reports.
- Organize field trips and prepare supportive technical information.
- Liaise with various stakeholders, including the Department of Water and Sanitation.
- Manage projects and develop Terms of Reference for partnerships.
- Participate in capacity-building and mentorship programs for junior staff.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly reports while ensuring adherence to deadlines.
- Supervise staff according to departmental policies.
What You’ll Need
- A 4-year degree or equivalent qualification in Natural or Environmental Sciences.
- Six years of post-qualification experience in a related field.
- Valid and unexpired driver’s license.
- Knowledge of the National Water Act and relevant environmental legislation.
- Experience in Resource Directed Measures and Integrated Water Resource Management.
- Proficiency in river health monitoring and indices.
- Strong technical report writing and interpretation skills.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
