What You’ll Do

  • Provide strategic direction and leadership for a designated unit or region within the Directorate.
  • Ensure that all unit activities align with the strategic direction of the Directorate and the Department.
  • Offer technical input on environmental issues, including Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and policy recommendations.
  • Facilitate regular team meetings to promote collaboration and information sharing.
  • Assist staff in planning their work and provide support and guidance as needed.
  • Oversee the performance management system (PMDS) and fulfil financial reporting requirements.
  • Ensure proper procurement and purchasing control within the unit.

What You’ll Need

  • A Grade 12 certificate along with an Honours Degree (NQF Level 8) in Environmental Management/Sciences, Natural Sciences, Engineering, or Chemistry, recognized by SAQA.
  • A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience within the environmental field.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Proficiency in computer literacy, good writing, and communication skills.
  • Strong administrative, organizational, and management skills, including people and financial management.
  • Understanding of public service and departmental acts and policies related to HR, finance, and procurement.
