About the Role
The Department of Social Development is looking for a dynamic and proactive Deputy Director: Special Programmes to be based at its Head Office in Polokwane. In this role, you will be responsible for drafting and maintaining a calendar of events for the financial year while managing and developing coordinated mainstreaming programs related to gender and disability. What You’ll Do
- Draft and manage a calendar of events for gender and disability mainstreaming programs.
- Provide strategic support and advice to the Director on related initiatives.
- Facilitate the integration of gender, youth, and disability considerations into organizational planning and budgeting processes.
- Promote the rights of women, persons with disabilities, and youth through various campaigns and programs.
- Develop and review departmental policies to ensure they are responsive to gender and disability issues.
- Prepare and present special program reports to management on a regular basis.
- Conduct research and disseminate relevant information to all staff members.
- Coordinate departmental participation in national campaigns focused on social justice.
What You’ll Need
- A Grade 12 certificate plus an NQF Level 6 qualification in Gender Studies, Disability Studies, Public Administration, Development Studies, or a related field.
- At least five years of experience in Special Programmes, with three years at a supervisory level.
- A valid driver’s license (with exceptions for persons with disabilities).
- Strong knowledge of integrated special programs and relevant policies, including Employment Equity and Affirmative Action.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Strong organizational skills, including planning, budgeting, and time management.
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team, while maintaining high performance under pressure.
