About the Role
The Department of Finance is looking for a dedicated Deputy Director: Municipal Accounting and Asset based in Bloemfontein. This role is crucial to ensuring that municipalities adhere to Generally Recognized Accounting Practice (GRAP) standards, and that credible financial statements are submitted on time. What You’ll Do
- Promote adherence to GRAP standards and ensure timely submission of credible financial statements.
- Report on compliance with National and Provincial Treasury reforms.
- Assess municipalities’ readiness to compile annual financial statements.
- Review and report on the quality of annual financial statements submitted.
- Support municipalities in improving audit outcomes.
- Monitor and support internal controls within municipalities.
- Manage resources of the Sub-directorate for effective operations.
What You’ll Need
- An appropriate degree or advanced diploma (NQF level 7) majoring in Financial Accounting.
- A minimum of five years’ experience in an accounting environment, with at least three years at an Assistant Director/supervisory level.
- Knowledge of the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA), Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), Municipal Structures Act (MSA), and relevant local government legislation.
- Skills in leadership, report writing, analytical thinking, communication, presentation, project management, and conflict management.
- Computer literacy and a valid driver’s license.
