About the Role
The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment is seeking a dedicated Deputy Director: Forestry to join its team in Pretoria. What You’ll Do
- Develop and review comprehensive state forest transfer models and frameworks.
- Facilitate the implementation of the forest transfer framework across various regions.
- Provide post-settlement support regarding the transfer of state forests.
- Identify and engage key stakeholders in transfer agreements.
- Mobilize funding on behalf of beneficiaries to support forestry initiatives.
- Negotiate and conclude forest transfer agreements effectively.
- Consult with internal and external stakeholders on transfer matters.
- Obtain legal opinions on transfer agreements to ensure compliance.
- Develop guidelines and frameworks for post-settlement support.
What You’ll Need
- A National Diploma (NQF6) in Forestry or a relevant qualification recognized by SAQA.
- A minimum of five years’ experience in Forestry or a related field, with three years at a junior managerial level (Assistant Director or equivalent).
- Extensive knowledge of key environmental legislation, including the National Forest Act and Public Finance Regulations.
- Proficiency in project management and financial management.
- Strong people management and leadership skills.
- Excellent planning, organizing, facilitation, and negotiation skills.
- Effective communication skills, including report writing and presentations.
- A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel as required.
