What You’ll Do

  • Promote household food and nutrition security initiatives across the district.
  • Coordinate and oversee food security programmes at both departmental and provincial levels.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to plan and implement effective food security solutions.
  • Represent the Department in relevant provincial and national food security forums.
  • Maintain and update databases of households and institutions benefiting from food security initiatives.
  • Raise awareness about food security issues within the community and amongst stakeholders.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of food security initiatives.
  • Supervise and manage staff while promoting professional development within the team.
  • Perform administrative duties and compile reports as required.
  • Manage budget planning and grant funding allocated to food security initiatives.

What You’ll Need

  • A Grade 12 qualification along with a recognised Honours Degree or Post Graduate Diploma in Agriculture (NQF 8).
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience at the Assistant Director level in agriculture, preferably in a food security environment.
  • Compulsory registration with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP).
  • In-depth knowledge of legislation and regulations governing the Public Service and food security.
  • Familiarity with South African government priorities, particularly in relation to food security and agrarian reform.
  • Strong skills in financial management, strategic planning, and project management.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and people management abilities.
  • A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel as needed.
