About the Role
The Department of Local Government in the Western Cape Government is seeking a dedicated Deputy Director: Disaster Preparedness & Response. Located in Cape Town, this pivotal role is essential in managing the Provincial Disaster Management Centre, ensuring that the community is prepared for emergencies and can respond effectively when disasters strike. What You’ll Do
- Manage the Provincial Disaster Management Centre and oversee its operations
- Support and assist District and City of Cape Town Centres
- Develop and maintain provincial contingency plans and disaster management strategies
- Manage disaster response operations effectively
- Evaluate, review, and develop disaster management contingency plans
- Oversee people and financial management within the sub-directorate
- Plan and manage the work of the sub-directorate and ensure accountability for performance
- Provide leadership and strategic management for the sub-directorate
What You’ll Need
- An appropriate 3-year National Diploma or B-Degree (equivalent or higher)
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in middle management
- Knowledge of the Disaster Management Act (Act 57 of 2002) and related legislation
- Familiarity with operational management practices and procurement processes
- Strong project management and crisis management skills
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
