About the Role
The Department of Local Government is seeking a dedicated Assistant Director: Disaster Institutional Capacity based in Cape Town, Western Cape. This role is crucial in enhancing the province’s disaster management capabilities, ensuring that communities are better prepared for emergencies. What You’ll Do
- Assist in coordinating and facilitating the functioning of Intergovernmental Relations (IGR) Disaster Management structures.
- Compile and submit the Disaster Management Annual Report while overseeing monitoring and evaluation reporting.
- Develop disaster management legislation and frameworks to enhance provincial disaster preparedness.
- Coordinate special events related to disaster management and respond to emergencies, including standby duties and media inquiries.
- Manage human resources and performance management within the sub-directorate.
- Lead capacity-building initiatives to empower stakeholders in disaster management practices.
What You’ll Need
- An appropriate 3-year National Diploma or B-Degree (equivalent or higher qualification).
- A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in the disaster management field.
- Strong understanding of the Disaster Management Act and related legislation.
- Proficient in managing stakeholder forums and project management.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Competence in using MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
