About the Role
The Department of Public Works and Infrastructure is looking for a dedicated and proactive individual for the role of Deputy Director: Contractor Development Initiatives at their Johannesburg Regional Office. This key position involves coordinating the implementation of the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) National Youth Service (NYS) and Contractor Development initiatives. The successful candidate will play a vital role in promoting job creation and enhancing the labour-intensity of public works projects, making a significant impact on the Johannesburg community and beyond.
In this role, you will be responsible for developing effective strategies for the implementation of NYS and Contractor Development projects. What You’ll Do
- Coordinate the implementation of the EPWP National Youth Service and Contractor Development initiatives.
- Develop and execute strategies for efficient project implementation.
- Identify suitable projects within the public works portfolios for EPWP and NYS.
- Promote job creation and increase labour-intensity of DPWI projects.
- Support planning and design of projects to align with EPWP and NYS goals.
- Advise provincial departments and municipalities on establishing EPWP NYS programs.
- Maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Compile and submit progress reports on NYS and CDI initiatives.
- Monitor and manage memorandums of understanding with implementing bodies.
- Oversee recruitment and training processes for NYS beneficiaries.
- Facilitate training and workshops for program participants.
- Conduct assessments and evaluations for program inclusion.
- Update databases with beneficiary details and job creation statistics.
- Identify areas for program improvement and provide feedback.
What You’ll Need
- A minimum of a three-year tertiary qualification (NQF Level 06) in Social Sciences, Built Environment, or a related field.
- Relevant experience at a Junior Management or Assistant Director level.
- Strong knowledge of the Expanded Public Works Programme and National Youth Service initiatives.
- Familiarity with youth development programs and training processes.
- Proficient in programme and project management principles.
- Understanding of PFMA, Treasury Regulations, and Public Service Act.
- Excellent analytical and computer literacy skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication abilities.
- Strong relationship management skills, with innovative and creative thinking.
