The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment is seeking a skilled Control Environmental Officer Grade A to join its dedicated team in Pretoria. This pivotal role will focus on planning, implementing, and facilitating the national environmental compliance and enforcement capacity-building programme for Environmental Management Inspectors and other relevant regulatory authorities. By engaging with stakeholders such as the South African Revenue Service: Customs (SARS), South African Police Service (SAPS), and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), this position plays a crucial role in ensuring the effective management of South Africa’s environmental resources.

What You’ll Do

• Plan and implement training programmes for Environmental Management Inspectors and regulatory authorities.
• Administer venue procurement and logistics for training sessions, ensuring all needs are met.
• Collaborate with various stakeholders to develop and enhance compliance and enforcement curriculum.
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the capacity-building initiatives.
• Liaise with international and local environmental authorities to foster partnerships and knowledge sharing.
• Provide capacity development support for operational projects at national, provincial, and municipal levels.

What You’ll Need

• A four-year degree (NQF8) in Natural or Environmental Sciences or a related field.
• A minimum of six years’ experience in environmental compliance and enforcement.
• Proven expertise in developing and implementing capacity-building programmes.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create effective training materials.
• Knowledge of the legislative framework related to the Environmental Management Inspectorate in South Africa.
• Excellent organisational, problem-solving, and project management skills.
• A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel as necessary.
