About the Role
The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment is seeking passionate individuals for the role of Assistant Director: State Forest Management in the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu Natal. What You’ll Do
- Facilitate the implementation and enhancement of Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) processes.
- Coordinate technical support for forest management strategies in the provinces.
- Assist in the development and review of forest growth and yield models for commercial plantations.
- Monitor and assess state forest plantations based on sustainable management principles.
- Oversee the implementation of risk mitigation plans for state forests.
- Support the development of human resource and technical capacity in the forestry sector.
- Promote job creation through various initiatives, including the EPWP.
- Engage with sector organizations and participate in forestry development forums.
What You’ll Need
- National Diploma (NQF6) in Forestry, Natural Resource Management, or a related field.
- A minimum of three years’ experience in Forestry Management or Commercial Forestry.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, including the National Forest Act and National Veld and Forest Fire Act.
- Strong understanding of stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- Proficiency in financial management and project management.
- Ability to lead teams and handle challenging situations effectively.
- Valid Driving License and willingness to travel as required.
