About the Role
The Prince Mshiyeni Memorial Hospital is seeking an experienced Artisan Chief to join its dynamic team in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. This pivotal role is integral to ensuring that the hospital operates efficiently and safely, providing critical maintenance and technical services. The Artisan Chief will manage and coordinate maintenance activities, supervise a dedicated team of artisans and support staff, and ensure compliance with technical standards and legislative requirements. What You’ll Do
- Oversee and manage the provision of technical and maintenance services at Prince Mshiyeni Memorial Hospital.
- Supervise artisans, artisan foremen, maintenance personnel, and support staff to ensure smooth operations.
- Conduct performance management and development for team members through the Employee Performance Management and Development Systems (EPMDS).
- Plan and implement preventative and corrective maintenance programmes to enhance facility reliability.
- Investigate technical problems and implement appropriate remedial actions promptly.
- Manage maintenance projects from planning through to execution and completion.
- Ensure contractors comply with contractual requirements and monitor their performance.
- Prepare technical reports, maintenance schedules, and other relevant documentation.
- Participate in the management of maintenance budgets while ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
- Provide technical guidance to management and relevant hospital departments to facilitate effective decision-making.
What You’ll Need
- Appropriate Trade Test Certificate in accordance with the Manpower Act, 1981.
- Valid driver’s licence.
- A minimum of 10 years’ experience as an Artisan/Artisan Foreman.
- Experience in a regional hospital environment is advantageous.
- Proven experience in supervising and managing maintenance personnel and contractors.
- Sound knowledge of technical maintenance, repairs, and installation within the relevant trade.
- Strong project management skills and familiarity with maintenance planning.
- Ability to analyse technical drawings and design specifications.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Good communication and technical report-writing abilities.
- Proficiency in using relevant technical and administrative computer applications.
- Ability to work under pressure and respond effectively to emergency maintenance needs.
