The Prince Mshiyeni Memorial Hospital is seeking an experienced Artisan Chief to join its dynamic team in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. This pivotal role is integral to ensuring that the hospital operates efficiently and safely, providing critical maintenance and technical services. The Artisan Chief will manage and coordinate maintenance activities, supervise a dedicated team of artisans and support staff, and ensure compliance with technical standards and legislative requirements. This position not only supports the hospital’s infrastructure but also directly impacts the quality of care provided to the community.

In this role, you will play a vital part in maintaining the hospital’s equipment, infrastructure, and services, ensuring that they are always in optimal working condition. What You’ll Do

• Oversee and manage the provision of technical and maintenance services at Prince Mshiyeni Memorial Hospital.
• Supervise artisans, artisan foremen, maintenance personnel, and support staff to ensure smooth operations.
• Conduct performance management and development for team members through the Employee Performance Management and Development Systems (EPMDS).
• Plan and implement preventative and corrective maintenance programmes to enhance facility reliability.
• Investigate technical problems and implement appropriate remedial actions promptly.
• Manage maintenance projects from planning through to execution and completion.
• Ensure contractors comply with contractual requirements and monitor their performance.
• Prepare technical reports, maintenance schedules, and other relevant documentation.
• Participate in the management of maintenance budgets while ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
• Provide technical guidance to management and relevant hospital departments to facilitate effective decision-making.

What You’ll Need

• Appropriate Trade Test Certificate in accordance with the Manpower Act, 1981.
• Valid driver’s licence.
• A minimum of 10 years’ experience as an Artisan/Artisan Foreman.
• Experience in a regional hospital environment is advantageous.
• Proven experience in supervising and managing maintenance personnel and contractors.
• Sound knowledge of technical maintenance, repairs, and installation within the relevant trade.
• Strong project management skills and familiarity with maintenance planning.
• Ability to analyse technical drawings and design specifications.
• Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Good communication and technical report-writing abilities.
• Proficiency in using relevant technical and administrative computer applications.
• Ability to work under pressure and respond effectively to emergency maintenance needs.
