What You’ll Do

• Conduct animal disease surveillance, detection, and monitoring.
• Implement disease control measures and facilitate animal movement permits.
• Perform veterinary regulatory inspections in designated areas.
• Assist in testing animals for diseases such as TB and CA.
• Support wildlife disease investigations and research.
• Administer prescribed medications, treatments, and vaccines under veterinary supervision.
• Respond to animal health emergencies and assist with disease outbreaks.
• Perform basic diagnostic tests and prepare samples for laboratories.
• Educate animal owners and farmers on disease prevention and responsible care.
• Advise on animal hygiene, nutrition, housing, and disease prevention strategies.

What You’ll Need

• Grade 12 and a recognized BSc Agriculture (Animal Health) Degree or a National Diploma in Animal Health, accredited by SAQA.
• Current registration with the South African Veterinary Council as an Animal Health Technician.
• A minimum of 1–2 years of relevant post-qualification experience is an advantage.
• Knowledge of the Animal Diseases Act, Veterinary and Para-veterinary Professions Act, and Animal Identification Act.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Good report writing and administrative capabilities.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate in multidisciplinary teams.
• Willingness to travel extensively and work outside of normal hours as required.
• Problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
• A valid driver’s license.
