What You’ll Do

• Conduct animal disease surveillance, detection, and monitoring.
• Plan and implement disease control measures, including the regulation of animal movement.
• Perform veterinary inspections and tests on animals for diseases such as TB and CA.
• Assist in wildlife disease investigations and related research.
• Provide primary animal health care by administering medications and vaccinations under veterinary supervision.
• Respond to animal health emergencies, assisting with disease outbreaks and treating injured animals.
• Educate animal owners about disease prevention, hygiene, nutrition, and responsible animal care.
• Prepare diagnostic samples for veterinary laboratories and assist in report writing.

What You’ll Need

• A Grade 12 qualification plus a BSc Agriculture (Animal Health) Degree or a National Diploma in Animal Health, recognized by SAQA.
• Current registration with the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC) as an Animal Health Technician.
• At least one year of relevant post-qualification experience is advantageous.
• Knowledge of the Animal Diseases Act, Veterinary and Para-veterinary Professions Act, and Animal Identification Act.
• Proficient in MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
• A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel extensively, including after hours when necessary.
