What You’ll Do

  • Provide general agricultural advice on crop production and irrigation methods to local farmers.
  • Supervise municipal officials and coordinate departmental programs to enhance agricultural practices.
  • Support farmers through government initiatives such as CASP and Land Care, assisting with planning, implementation, and aftercare.
  • Promote best farming practices and the latest agricultural technologies to improve productivity.
  • Facilitate the transfer of farming skills to farmers, focusing on farms, feedlots, and abattoirs.
  • Undertake assigned activities under the guidance of senior staff members to build your expertise.
  • Maintain an up-to-date database of farmers and compile monthly and quarterly reports on agricultural activities.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with clients and stakeholders to enhance service delivery.
  • Stay informed about relevant policies, procedures, and developments in agricultural practices.

What You’ll Need

  • A minimum of Grade 12 and a recognized 4-year BSc Degree in Agriculture or a Post Graduate Diploma in Agriculture (NQF Level 8), with a major in crop/plant production.
  • At least 2 years of experience in extension and advisory services within the agricultural sector.
  • Registration with a professional body such as SACNASP is compulsory.
  • Strong knowledge of extension methodologies and project planning processes.
  • Excellent communication skills, including report writing and computer literacy.
  • Good organizational skills and a valid driver’s license are essential.
