About the Opportunity
The Executive Mayor of Emfuleni Local Municipality is extending an invitation to ambitious Grade 12 learners who aspire to further their education at universities or other institutions of higher learning. This bursary aims to provide financial support to academically deserving students, with a focus on those from disadvantaged backgrounds or families registered on the municipality’s indigent database. The bursary supports full-time undergraduate studies, artisan training, and postgraduate studies in approved fields.
Closing Dates
Applications for the bursary open on 01 October 2026 and will close on 30 November 2026.
Key Responsibilities
Successful applicants will be expected to maintain their academic performance and adhere to the terms and conditions of the bursary. Any changes in the approved programme of study after commencement may result in forfeiture of the bursary.
Requirements/Qualifications
Eligible candidates must:
- Have passed Grade 12 with a minimum average of 60%.
- Be entering their first year of study at a tertiary institution.
- Reside within the Emfuleni Local Municipality.
- Provide proof of admission to an institution of higher learning.
- Submit a testimonial letter from their high school.
- Belong to a household with a combined income not exceeding R350,000 per year.
Priority is given to learners from disadvantaged backgrounds, especially those on the indigent database.
Benefits
The bursary may cover registration fees, tuition fees, a laptop, and prescribed books. Accommodation and food costs may also be funded for selected students. However, students with existing bursary funding are not eligible.
Preferred Fields of Study
The municipality prioritizes fields such as Commerce, Law, Technical Skills, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Human and Social Sciences, Science and Technology, and other scarce and critical skills identified by the municipality’s needs.
