The Department of Correctional Services is seeking a dedicated and skilled Visitors Committee Coordinating Officer (VCCO) to join their team in Cape Town, located in the vibrant Western Cape Management Region. This pivotal role focuses on overseeing the management, supervision, and control of Independent Correctional Centre Visitors (ICCVs) within the region. What You’ll Do

  • Provide management and supervision of Independent Correctional Centre Visitors.
  • Coordinate and monitor ICCV activities and allocate tasks effectively.
  • Review reports and monitor attendance and performance of ICCVs.
  • Manage complaints, ensuring proper recording and escalation.
  • Facilitate induction and training arrangements for new staff.
  • Organize Visitors’ Committee and stakeholder engagement meetings.
  • Prepare meeting agendas, compile minutes, and track implementation of resolutions.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and compile statistical and management reports.
  • Maintain records and registers to support regional oversight activities.
  • Liaise with correctional centres, ICCVs, and internal stakeholders to ensure effective oversight.

What You’ll Need

  • Senior Certificate/Grade 12.
  • Degree or National Diploma in Public Administration/Public Management at NQF 6 as recognized by SAQA.
  • Three-year Degree/National Diploma in Office Management or Administration or relevant qualification on NQF 6.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the Justice Cluster or at least 2 years’ supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of the Public Finance Management Act and Public Service Act and Regulations.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent problem-solving and leadership skills.

Requirements

Applicants must be in possession of a Senior Certificate/Grade 12, Degree/National Diploma in Public Administration/Public Management at NQF 6 as recognised by SAQA.

Three-year Degree/National Diploma in Office Management or Administration or relevant qualification on NQF 6 or equivalent qualification.

A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the Justice Cluster or a minimum of 2 years’ supervisory experience.

Knowledge of the Public Finance Management Act, Public Service Act and Regulations and National Treasury Regulations.

A valid driver’s licence.

Skills and competencies: computer literacy (MS Office, Excel and PowerPoint), sound interpersonal relations, communication skills (verbal and written), planning and organisational skills, ability to work under pressure and independently and as part of a team, willingness to work extra hours, problem solving and leadership skills, attention to detail and good conflict resolution skills.

Job Duties

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing management, supervision and control of Independent Correctional Centre Visitors within the region.

Coordinate and monitor ICCV activities, allocate work, review reports, monitor attendance and performance and facilitate induction and training arrangements.

Manage complaints, including general, urgent and mandatory complaints, ensure proper recording and escalation of matters and follow up on outstanding responses.

Coordinate Visitors’ Committee and stakeholder engagement meetings, prepare agendas, compile minutes and track implementation of resolutions.

Conduct performance evaluations, compile statistical and management reports, maintain records and registers, provide administrative support to regional oversight activities and liaise with correctional centres, ICCVs, Visitors’ Committees and internal stakeholders to support effective oversight.

Salary

R338 106 per annum (Level 07)
