What You’ll Do

  • Manage operations within the Vetting Unit, ensuring efficient service delivery.
  • Oversee the entire lifecycle of the vetting process, from pre-employment checks to background investigations.
  • Lead daily operations, optimizing workflow and resource use.
  • Monitor and evaluate the unit’s performance, implementing improvements as necessary.
  • Foster a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement within the team.
  • Ensure all vetting activities comply with departmental policies and national regulations.
  • Contribute to risk assessment and mitigation through thorough vetting procedures.
  • Support the development and updating of the risk register.
  • Manage the pre-employment vetting process to reduce organizational risks.
  • Implement strategic objectives and innovations within the Vetting Unit.
  • Oversee human, physical, and financial resource management in the Chief Directorate.
  • Coach staff on compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices.

What You’ll Need

  • An undergraduate qualification in Law, Vetting, Security Management, Public Management and Administration, or a related field at NQF level 7.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ managerial experience in vetting or handling classified information.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Constitution and relevant public service legislative frameworks.
  • Familiarity with the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) and Treasury regulations.
  • Understanding of the Minimum Information Security Standards (MISS) and the National Intelligence Strategy Act.
  • Strong project management skills and experience in utilizing online systems.
  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel for operational duties.
  • Completion of the Senior Management Services Pre-entry Certificate upon appointment.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
