What You’ll Do

  • Conduct mediation and inquiries related to family law disputes, including child custody and guardianship cases.
  • Evaluate information and compile detailed forensic court reports with recommendations tailored to the best interests of the child.
  • Act as an expert witness in court proceedings, representing the interests of the family advocate.
  • Assist beneficiaries in understanding the functions of the office of the advocate.
  • Travel to conduct inquiries, interview relevant parties, and gather references related to family law disputes.
  • Manage assigned cases efficiently, ensuring targets are met and providing counseling to clients, including mental health care users and HIV-positive patients.
  • Trace family members of clients and provide family counseling to deceased clients’ families.

What You’ll Need

  • Senior Certificate / Grade 12 along with a Degree in Social Work or Social Science.
  • Current registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions as a Social Worker (valid until 2026).
  • Proven knowledge and experience in mediation and counseling clients.
  • Familiarity with family law, including the Children’s Act, Domestic Violence Act, and relevant mediation practices.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Skills in mediation, interviewing, conflict resolution, evaluation, and report writing.
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage diversity and conflict effectively.
