What You’ll Do

• Study case dockets and conduct thorough investigations to prepare for court.
• Decide on the institution of criminal proceedings and draft charge sheets and indictments.
• Advise law enforcement agencies on investigation matters, ensuring proper legal procedures are followed.
• Represent the State in all courts, presenting cases effectively to secure convictions.
• Lead and cross-examine witnesses, addressing the court on matters of conviction and sentencing.
• Prepare legal opinions, head arguments, and argue cases in appropriate courts.
• Mentor junior staff, providing guidance and quality checks on their work.
• Participate in performance assessments for staff being mentored.

What You’ll Need

• An LLB degree or an appropriate legal qualification for serving prosecutors seeking promotion.
• At least eight years of post-qualification legal experience in civil and/or criminal litigation.
• Demonstrable competency in acting independently, professionally, and accountably.
• Right of appearance as per section 25(2) of the NPA Act, 32 of 1998.
• Strong advocacy and legal drafting skills with a good knowledge of civil and/or criminal procedure.
• Willingness to travel and work extended hours as required.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective collaboration.
• Decision-making ability and computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Office.
• A valid driver’s license.
