About the Role
The Department of Higher Education and Training is seeking a dedicated and skilled Safety Officer for its Limpopo Regional Office. This vital role plays a significant part in ensuring the safety and well-being of employees and students across various Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Community Education and Training (CET) colleges in the region. By identifying potential hazards and conducting comprehensive risk assessments, the Safety Officer will contribute to creating a safer educational environment for the community.

The Safety Officer will take the lead in organizing Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) compliance audits, developing OHS management systems, and providing essential training to ensure that all staff members understand and adhere to safety protocols.

What You’ll Do
- Conduct annual Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments at the Regional Office.
- Organize and facilitate Occupational Health and Safety audits by relevant authorities.
- Develop, implement, and monitor the OHS management system for the Regional Office.
- Coordinate OHS-related training programs for new and existing employees.
- Support CET and TVET Colleges with continuous educational programs on OHS compliance.
- Assist Regional Directorates in monitoring OHS compliance in Colleges.
- Manage resources within the unit, including human and financial resources.
- Develop intervention strategies as needed to enhance safety protocols.
What You’ll Need
- Recognized National Diploma (NQF 6) in Safety Management or a related qualification.
- Minimum of two to three years of relevant experience in an administrative environment.
- Knowledge of Public Service legislation and policies.
- Understanding of the Public Service Education and Training (PSET) system.
- Familiarity with the Higher Education sector and corporate governance.
- Skills in budgetary, expenditure, and cash flow management.
