The Department of Defence is seeking a skilled and experienced Risk Management Committee Member to join their team at the Armscor Building in Erasmuskloof, Pretoria. This role is essential for ensuring the effective management of risks within the Department of Defence, supporting the overall mission of safeguarding our nation. As a member of the committee, you will play a critical role in advising the Accounting Officer and management on risk matters that directly impact the organisation’s ability to serve the public effectively.

What You’ll Do

• Advise the Accounting Officer and management on organisational risk management matters.
• Review and monitor the implementation of the Risk Management Policy and Strategy across the Department of Defence.
• Provide guidance on risk identification and assessment methodologies, ensuring the completeness and accuracy of the risk register.
• Oversee the development and implementation of the Department’s Risk Appetite Framework.
• Interact regularly with the Audit Committee to ensure coordinated risk management efforts.
• Act as the chair of the Strategic Risk Management Committee in the absence of the chairperson.

What You’ll Need

• A minimum of Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) or equivalent, along with a recognised Bachelor’s degree or Advanced Diploma in Risk Management, Accounting, Auditing, or Financial Management (NQF Level 7).
• Over ten years of executive management experience in risk management, governance, and compliance.
• Experience serving on oversight committees, particularly in the public service, is advantageous.
• Affiliation with a professional recognised body for appointment as a member of the Risk Management Committee.
• High level of integrity, independence, and understanding of public sector governance principles, including the Public Finance Management Act.
